Give California's Attorney General the ammo to take on the Big Banks

Courage Campaign

Kamala Harris, California's Attorney General, needs to hear from you NOW. Last month she walked out of the "50-state settlement" talks and refused to give the Big Banks a "get out of jail free" card for their crimes against homeowners. According to the New York Times, she's facing enormous pressure to rejoin the talks.

We need to show Kamala Harris that we'll have her back if she stays on offense against the Big Banks and makes them pay for committing fraud against millions of California homeowners. Our friends from ACCE, the California Nurses Assocation, and SEIU 721 have signed onto a letter that clearly explains the key elements of any fair settlement for California. Below is an excerpt from that letter. Can you co-sign and share with 5 friends?

We count on AG Harris, and she has not let us down.

Dear Attorney General Harris,

We call on you to reject any settlement without:

1. Widespread and fairly applied principle reduction to keep millions of Californians who are underwater on their mortgages in their homes, particularly in California’s hardest-hit communities.

2. A narrow release of liability, including no release of claims regarding origination, process, securitization or chain of title fraud and abuse.

3. An overhaul and reform of industry servicing practices, including a ban on foreclosure while a family is pursuing a mortgage modification.

4. Strict, independent, and robust enforcement mechanisms covering all parts of the settlement, including penalties for banks who fail to hold up their end of the agreement.

5. Assurance that homeowners who were kicked out of their homes without due process, many of whom lost their lifetime savings, will receive fair, ample restitution and an opportunity to rebuild their lives and communities.
