Rightwing anti-immigrant lunatic J.T. Ready evidently shot and killed four people at a home in Arizona before turning the gun on himself. If you didn’t see that coming, you weren’t looking. J.T. Ready was a neo-Nazi immigrant-basher, or as they are known in Arizona, a “moderate.” Ready headed up a self-styled “Border Guard” of militia nuts. Gee, I wonder who’s safeguarding the border now? Ready also converted to Mormonism. Great—a neo-Nazi who is also a Mormon. In fact, the freak behind Arizona’s SB1070, former GOP Sen. Russell Pearce, even ordained him an ‘elder’ in the church. The only remotely comforting thought in all of this is that at least it didn’t happen in Florida.

Speaking of which, Florida Governor Rick Scott has denied a request by the city of Tampa to ban concealed weapons outside the Republican National Convention. I guess when you think about it, you realize that most of the gun nuts are going to be inside the convention anyway. Scott said “it is unclear how disarming law-abiding citizens would better protect them from the dangers and threats posed by those who would flout the law.” I think the governor just said that people should just shoot it and see who wins.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett says that forced ultrasounds are good because they could “convince somebody maybe to carry that baby to term and give it up for adoption.” Hey Tom, you know what might make a lot of women choose not to have an abortion? Not being pregnant! But that would require giving them access to birth control.

It seems that Mitt Romney’s campaign refused to let openly gay foreign policy spokesman Richard Grenell speak, even about foreign policy... which rather undermines the position of foreign policy spokesman.  Richard Grenell is an extreme neoconservative who is completely wrong on every foreign policy issue imaginable. What more do Republicans want? Yet Mitt Romney was unwilling to publicly back up Grenell. Mitt Romney is afraid of the Christian right—and all that does is convince that Christian right that he is not really one of them.

The rightwing is obsessed that the Obama campaign slogan of “Forward” is some kind of communist rallying call. It seems that socialists, communists, and fascists have used the word “forward” in political slogans. Maybe that’s because “forward” makes a good slogan for everything from political movements to constipation cures!
