Randi Rhodes: The Koch 600

In Wisconsin, the day after Michael Moore addressed tens of thousands at the capital (video below), the Koch brothers big “Stand with Scott Walker” bus tour wrapped up with a rally in Madison on Sunday that drew a pathetic crowd of about 600 people. And the Madison crowd was the largest turnout on a 10-city tour! It sounds like they didn’t even need busses for this bus tour. They could have done it with a mini-van or a nice roomy sedan. More than 600 people would show up to support Scott Walker if they thought it was Scott Walker of The Walker Brothers who had hits in 1965 with “Make it Easy on Yourself” and 1966 with “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine.” (Actually Scott Walker the singer has had a very successful solo career in the United Kingdom doing baroque and sometimes macabre experimental pop songs. He’s an acquired taste, but he’s a lot easier to acquire a taste for than Scott Walker the Wisconsin Governor.)

60 percent of Wisconsin voters disapprove of Scott Walker (the governor, not the singer.) An incredible 48 percent say they strongly disapprove of him. If he were a soft drink that was being test-marketed, people would be spitting him out. Right now the only thing that could prevent Scott Walker from being defeated in a reelection bid would be if he gets recalled.

The only time Republicans take a break from demonizing President Obama is when they’re demonizing Muslim Americans. This week Rep. Peter King (R-NY), the new Republican chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, will begin hearings on “radicalized” Muslims. These hearings should clearly show the danger… of allowing Republicans to control the House of Representatives. Congressman King is spreading fear and hatred with these hearings. Peter King is trying to scare more people than Stephen King.

Over the weekend John McCain made the statement that Apple’s iPad and iPhone are manufactured in the United States. That’s completely wrong, but then you probably already knew that from the fact that John McCain said it. We don’t make a lot in this country anymore. In fact, the ideas in John McCain’s head are one of the few things we manufacture here these days.
