Randi Rhodes: Money vs Progress

Over the weekend, most of the possible 2016 Republican presidential candidates spent two days in Las Vegas, kissing the…ring of Sheldon Adelson (among other things). The event is held at Sheldon’s Venetian hotel. Perfect - a fake hotel to host a gathering to finance a fake election. The current American political system is to real democracy what Sheldon’s theme park Venetian canals are to the real city of Venice. Of course, in the 2012 election, even all of Sheldon’s money wasn’t able to force Newt Gingrich down the throats of the voters. You can’t make a silk purse out of any part of a sow like Newt Gingrich.

Chris Christie told the audience at Sheldon-palooza that Republicans had better start focusing on winning elections. And the first step is getting the backing of a billionaire. Give Chris Christie credit—he’s already focused on winning elections. He has his mouth where the money is!

Christie caused a stir in the ballroom when he referred to "the occupied territories." Christie actually apologized to Sheldon for using the term. Politico reports that Christie "clarified in the strongest terms possible that his remarks today were not meant to be a statement of policy." No, Chris Christie’s policy on Israel is "Whatever Sheldon wants."

This is the last day to enroll in Obamacare, and the enrollment numbers are approaching the White House's optimistic goal of 7 million. No surprise - Republicans are questioning the numbers. Nothing tells you more about the success of the program than that Republicans are in denial about the numbers being excellent.

On Fox News (Where else?) Wyoming Republican Senator John Barrasso said "I think they’re cooking the books on this." Nobody is "cooking" anything, Senator. You and your party tried to roast Obamacare over the charcoal, but you failed. Barrasso also said "I’ve looked at this 10 different ways. The healthcare law is unfixable." Senator Barrasso is a physician. Boy, am I glad this guy is not MY doctor! "Sorry. I’ve examined you 10 different ways - and I don’t think that you’re curable. Die quickly, please."

Randi has been making it clear for some time that Democrats need to 'name & shame' the idiots in the media and politics who keep pushing lies - like Sen. John Barasso (R-WY) did last weekend on Fox. Bill Maher is obviously on the same page, as he smacked Democrats around for being wimps, and not standing up for what they believe. They're both right - It's time to stand up for America & ourselves.
